To Philip Okay. Dick, science fiction meant so much more. The late writer of more than 40 novels and 100 short stories saw sci-fi not solely as entertainment but as a subversive medium. Though Dick’s method to the style changed throughout his lifetime — he didn’t like the concept of sci-fi being narrowly defined — his work, significantly in his later years, developed into a philosophical, nearly mystical platform, usually exploring the nature of god, identity and fact.
In an earlier exercise above, I defined how you can follow your respiration by being attentive to the noise of your breath through pursed lips. That’s a really useful train but your final objective with respiration will actually be to reduce all “air” noises utterly, so you have a purer vocal sound and are creating much less pointless friction within your throat and vocal cords.
It’s a whole complicated mixture of regulatory, cultural shifts–individuals don’t need to go public. It’s not necessary to go public when you are not competing with different public firms. There aren’t corporations people need to amass. The M&A model has failed. Tech IPOs have a higher threshold. Tech M&A is even, it feels, more stalled out–it’s so difficult to get these things to work. Most of those companies do make sense as a standalone business.
