PREMIER LEAGUE LIVE: Newcastle come back from four goals down to snatch a point against Arsenal as Carlos Tevez and Louis Saha hit hat-tricks – as it happened

Arsenal’s failure to hang onto a four goal lead means they are four points behind Manchester United having played a game more and a point in front of Manchester City.

Wigan’s win takes them out of the bottom three and relegates Birmingham into 18th.

On the balance of play this is deserved. Leighton Baines sends in a lovely cross into the box and Louis Saha grabs his second of the afternoon. The Frenchman has never scored a hat-trick.

But after Mark Clattenburg awards the spot-kick he then performs a u-turn on his decision after a short discussion with the assistant. And I can’t honestly see why he has done that, it was a stonewall spot-kick.

15.43: Raining hard in the north of England – especially at Everton and Wigan. Looking at the scores it seems rain is proving the leveler again.

A hat-trick for the birthday boy as Carlos Tevez converts his second spot-kick by firing into the roof of the net.

They have done nothing all game but all credit to the Seasiders who are back in it with their first chance. Charlie Adam’s corner pinballs in the six yard box before Alex Baptiste pounces from a yard out.

How the home side need three points today. And they are back in it, Emmerson Boyce’s shot is well stopped by Paul Robinson but James McCarthy reacts quickest to level it up.

15.33: He can hit them and he goes might close to a stunning strike. Kolarov has a shot from over 30 yards that Myhill does brilliantly to tip out at Eastlands.

15.30: It’s all happening at White Hart Lane. Moments after Johan Elmander hits the bar Jermain Defoe has the ball in the back of the net with a brilliant finish.

It’s ruled out though for offside, tight call but the correct one.

This one is over. Bacary Sagna’s cross has a slight deflection but Robin van Persie from six yards head it in and ends this one as a contest.

Not even half-an-hour gone and every Premier League has a goal. Brett Emerton cuts-back for Jason Roberts in the box who hits a crisp finish against his former club.

Carlos Tevez is really proving a handful. After leaving Jonas Olsson trailing with great skill he buries a finish past Boaz Myhill.

This has been coming, Diniyar Bilyaletdinov has been under pressure to replace Pienaar but he does well here. After some good work from Jack Rodwell the Russian cut-backs for Louis Saha to hit the opener.

Steven Reid brings down Aleksandar Kolarov in the box and birthday boy Carlos Tevez fires City in front from the penalty spot.

Stewart Downing’s cross in the box is too high for Darren Bent but not John Pantsil who heads into his own-goal.

It was actually a good finish, not that he will take much consolation in that.

15.12: It was so nearly a repeat of the first goal for Spurs. Van der Vaart again tucks away a fortunate spot-kick for Spurs after Sam Ricketts was harshly booked for a foul on Aaron Lennon.

But the Dutchman was forced to take it again and this time Jussi Jaaskelainen manages to save ‘take two’.

The Gunners are running riot! Walcott is involved again as he plays Robin van Persie in the box who makes no mistake to fire past Harper. This could be a long afternoon for the home fans.

Gary Cahill’s clearance hits his own team mate Kevin Davies on the hand and Spurs have a fortunate penalty.

Nightmare for Newcastle, some fans have barely taken their sat and they are 2-0 down! Johan Djourou scores his first ever goal for the Gunners by nodding home Arshavin’s free-kick.

Robin van Persie’s through ball is helped on by Andrey Arshavin and it leaves a straight race between Theo Walcott and Fabricio Coloccini for the loose ball.

Naturally there is only one winner and the Englishman tucks a lovely finish past Steve Harper.

14.59: Teams are out around the country. Roberto Mancini is wearing that red and black scarf again in tribute to former Manchester City player Neil Young who sadly died on Thursday.

14.57: Manchester City striker Edin Dzeko has to settle for a place on the bench against West Brom at Eastlands, with Carlos Tevez leading the attack and looking to improve on his 17-goal tally on his 27th birthday.

Manager Roberto Mancini makes three changes from the side which drew in midweek against Birmingham, recalling Kolo Toure, Yaya Toure and Pablo Zabaleta.

Leading scorer Peter Odemwingie retains his place in the West Brom team after shaking off an ankle injury.

The Baggies make four changes following the draw against Wigan with James Morrison, Steven Reid, Nicky Shorey and Marc-Antoine Fortune returning to the team.

Striker Gabriel Agbonlahor, who has been troubled by a hamstring injury in recent weeks, comes into the starting XI at the expense of Marc Albrighton.

There is no place amongst the substitutes for Villa newcomer Michael Bradley, who has signed on loan from Borussia Moenchengladbach.

Fulham boss Mark Hughes keeps faith with the side which had defeated Newcastle 1-0 at Craven Cottage.

Alcaraz replaces Gary Caldwell, who is recovering from surgery on a fractured cheekbone, while the only other change from Tuesday’s 2-2 draw at West Brom was a starting place for Victor Moses in place of Franco Di Santo.

Blackburn boss Steve Kean makes three changes from their 1-0 defeat by Tottenham, with Brett Emerton back from Asian Cup duty while Morten Gamst Pedersen and Benjani Mwaruwari are preferred to David Dunn and Mame Biram Diouf.

The Australia midfielder returned from Asian Cup duty this week but manager David Moyes chooses to ease him back into the action after a month away.

14.39: Newcastle boss Alan Pardew pairs Peter Lovenkrands with Leon Best as he looks to plug the gap left by Andy Carroll for this afternoon’s Barclays Premier League clash with Arsenal.

Lovenkrands replaces Shola Ameobi, who will undergo surgery to repair his fractured cheekbone on Tuesday, while Cheik Tiote returns after a three-match ban to replace Danny Guthrie in midfield.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger also makes two changes with Abou Diaby replacing the injured Alex Song, while Andrey Arshavin comes in for Tomas Rosicky, who is named among the substitutes.
