The mission of the Department of Kinesiology is to prepare Christian professionals for careers in teaching, coaching, and sport and recreation management. Many colleges offer non-degree-seeking alternative teacher certification programs for graduate level students that generally include methods courses and a student teaching internship. Only the courses marked with an asterisk are restricted and require an advisor code and acceptance into the Teacher Certification Program. Students will develop competencies related to needs assessment and data collection, evaluation, and presentation, which are aligned with current best practice and available resources. Students will implement appropriate assessments to guide decision-making related to instruction and learning. We offer unique experiences in laboratory classes, field experiences and internships that give students hands-on experiences that prepare them for the workplace and for advanced studies. The project may take one of two forms: 1) laboratory research, or 2) a scholarly project using the library. We offer two bachelor’s degrees: the Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology. The Bachelor of Science in Sport Administration. At the graduate level, we offer a Master of Science in Kinesiology with three areas of specialization: exercise physiology, motor behavior, and pedagogy and psychological sciences, as well as a Doctor of Philosophy in Kinesiology in the three previously mentioned concentrations and in Sport Management. Athletic training: Athletic training specialties prepare students for careers as athletic trainers by teaching them about fundamental sciences, Kinesiology, exercise science, first aide and CPR and rehab practices.
