The television presenter, 52, had only minutes to spare before going live, when her director informed her the pink dress she had chosen was blending into the background.
Susanna then slipped into a red dress, but had a new outfit mishap when the second dress ‘gaped open’ at the chest.
She was forced to rely on a quickly sewn on button to secure the ensemble and ensure she was covered up sufficiently.
As she read the news, Susanna had her dress held together while someone from the wardrobe team pinned the front.
Susanna joked she didn’t want to do an Aubrey Plaza, who grabbed headlines when she arrived at the Screen Actors Guild Awards in a daring gold gown on Sunday night that barely contained her cleavage.
Susanna revealed: ‘I had a bit of an outfit, wardrobe crisis this morning.I put an outfit on that seemed to blend into the background, so the director with two minutes to spare said, ‘Is there anything else in your wardrobe?’
‘So, at two minutes to six, nipped into the wardrobe, found this, didn’t realise it needed a bit more buttoning up.It was a last minute cover-up job!’
Her co-star Ed Balls added: ‘I’ve never ever read a news headline from the autocue while simultaneously trying to unzip you from the back!’

Susanna later took to her Instagram to praise the styling team for helping her navigate the wardrobe mishaps in time for the show.
She wrote: ‘QUICK CHANGE!All hail the amazing styling team @gmb. Today’s red dress @lipsylondon, donned 2 minutes before the headlines at 6am, and with a button sewn on by @hollyslater while I was in the studio.

Awkward: The prank comes after Susanna Reid was forced to change outfit last minute on Good Morning Britain on Wednesday after suffering from two wardrobe issues
She offered a rundown of what an average day looks like for her during an interview with magazine, which begins with a 3.40am wakeup call from her alarm clock.
Susanna revealed that she gives herself five minutes in bed to check through her emails and the days’ headlines before getting up to begin her day.
The mother of three said that the start of her day is quite rushed as she throws on a coat over her pyjamas and brushes her teeth before getting into the car, which has been sent to take her to the studio.
The time in the car is put to very good use, as she gets caught up to speed on the newspapers and briefs of the interviewees due on the show that day.
Susanna also takes time to look over the stories that the researchers and producers have been putting together overnight.
She explained that the most important document she looks over on the journey is what’s known as the Grid, which gives timings and key points for the show.
Susanna admitted that it is ‘a lot’ to take in during the 25 minute car journey from her house to the studio at London Television Centre, in west London.
Confessing she loves her early schedule, Susanna said: ‘My three boys split their time between myself and my ex. The brilliant thing about my job is that so much of my working day is when they’re still sleeping and I’m already at home by the time they’re back from school or work.’
