This question has been troubling me for a while now. I say troubling, not because I personally have any doubt that business and ethics can and must coexist for an organization to realize success. I say it because reality shows that, despite the truth that most corporations in the corporate world have their so-called “Code of Ethics,” just a few of those firms actually go by it. Within the meantime, more and more firms and individuals find excuses for his or her unethical habits, and accordingly placing those who proceed to consider in ethics in a difficult situation, in which the latter group has to compete towards those that are less principled. Sadly, ethical individuals usually lose in their battle towards those, who would do anything to get what they want. As a matter of reality, in today’s world, it has develop into more the rule than the exception for ethical individuals to fail in their career and their enterprise life merely because they must compete with the more common type of individuals in immediately’s marketplace, namely the unprincipled, or whom many choose to call “smart.”
