Today, everything is computerized with each item stored within a database. Every radiator, passenger seat, water pump, and stereo knob can be accounted for with a few clicks of a button. If you need to find a specific item, you won’t be forced to spend hours digging through a dirty lot. Just ask an attendant to check the database. What’s more, a lot of salvage yards are now connected through a network. If one location cannot find a component in their database, they can check the databases of other locations.

I have bought and sold thousands of junk cars, and just to be honest about it, several of the cars I have bought, were not “junk cars” at all. The owner simply wanted to get rid of the car, so to the owner it was a junk car, however for me buying it, definitely NOT a junk car! They will also pickup your car donation for free. The charity will sell your car for the most money possible, whether that is to a used car dealer or a scrap yard. Since charities can provide both places a higher volume of vehicles, they receive a higher price for a car than a private person can. That money is used by the charity to support with their cause.

As for the price of auto parts, aside from the age of the vehicle there is the make and model. In this case foreign car parts are much more expensive than domestically made cars. Most people who buy foreign cars don’t realize this or even think about it until it comes time to get their vehicle repaired. Then they get hit with the bill and their eyes pop out of their head. For example, an oil filer for a 2005 Buick Century is about $2.98. The same oil filter for a Honda CRV is $3.98. It’s basically the same filter for the Honda but it costs $1.00 more. That comes out to a 33% markup on a relatively cheap part. Imagine that same 33% markup on a part that costs $60 for the Buick. You’d be paying about $80 for the same part for the Honda.

I, for one am more than happy to have the option to NEVER stand in the rain with my hand up again! While there are still a few of my PLATINUM level states that I heavily invest in and still have to travel to, I now can built my fortune ever higher by merely clicking my mouse!

To be a great scrapper, you must be a great businessman. You must be personable, professional, and polite. You should not try to cheat anybody, ever. One bad encounter will make your business name worthless. So, for your own sake, be professional. This includes officially filing for a business through the state. It means having your own business cards printed. It means having a separate phone line for your business calls. It means spending money on professional advertising! Do what you can to make yourself a professional.
