A mom and dad have sparked a fierce debate after revealing they allow their two-year-old daughter to have just five pieces of candy on Halloween.

Levi Jensen, and his wife, Emily, sent people on the web into a fiery frenzy when they shared that they limit the amount of candy their daughter Aria has on the spookiest night of the year.

The Utah-based health coach and nurse noted that they allow their child to pick her favorite five candies, then place the rest of the candy outside and tell her that the ‘Switch Witch’ visited and replaced her candy with a brand new toy.

Emily and Levi explained that they began the practice to teach their child about the importance of healthy and unhealthy foods as well as limit the amount of candy their child consumes – however, when they shared the practice online, they ignited controversy as many slammed them for being ‘horrible parents.’

The Utah-based health coach and nurse noted that they allow their child to pick her favorite five candies

The couple first revealed the practice in an Instagram video.

They captioned the video: ‘The Switch Witch is back!  This has been such a fun tradition!

‘And better yet, it’s been a way to let our daughter enjoy every bit of Halloween without eating tons of candy. You can get fun with it and give your witch a name! The witch who stops by our house is Wilda.’

After a night of trick-or-treating, Aria chooses her five pieces of candy to keep.

Then, the two-year-old places the remaining sweets back in her basket and leaves it on the porch.

While Aria is sleeping, the Switch Witch takes the candy and places a new toy in the bucket.

And while the health-conscious parents thought sharing their idea would help others, they were slammed when people on the web learned their practice.

One person said: ‘Dude, it’s once a year.’

Someone else commented: ‘It’s one day of the year. Give it a rest. You think it’s better to buy your kid toys than to let them have the bite sized candy.’

Another person wrote: ‘What happened to parents just letting kids be kids and enjoy Halloween.’

‘This video is bad and you should feel bad,’ added another person.

One user said: ‘Horrible parents, it’s not always about being healthy, it’s about having fun, when you’re young you can afford to be a little unhealthy every now and again, and come on dude, it’s once a year, horrible parents.’

‘So glad my father would never do anything like this! It’s literally one night a year, relax,’ said someone else.

Another person added: ‘It’s once a year? This household must be awful and boring. ‘

Someone else added: ‘Just let your kids eat what they want for a once a year special occasion instead of making up yet another lie.’

‘Five pieces of candy is insane, ‘ another person added.

One user wrote: ‘God forbid she lived like a kid once per year.’

Many people branded them ‘horrible parents’ after learning about the ‘Switch Witch’

However, other parents noted it was a ‘great idea’ and praised Emily and Levi.

One person said: ‘This is so cute.’

Someone else added: ‘I love this! Kids need to watch how much sugar is going into their bodies bc it is highly addictive! More addicting than cocaine slang actually! This is an amazing idea and whoever is hating this man you’re probably obese and have diabetes, I’m sorry.’

Another user wrote: ‘That’s a very good idea.’

‘This is so smart,’ one person commented.

‘Awww,’ said someone else.

‘I think it’s a cute idea,’ added another user.

Another person said: ‘That’s so cool.’

Speaking to Today, Emily noted hat she had no idea their Instagram post would stir up such ‘heated’ opinions.

However, other parents noted it was a ‘great idea’ and praised Emily and Levi

The mom-of-one noted that she first heard about the Switch Witch a couple years ago and knew she would implement it when she had children.

She told the outlet: ‘I remember thinking, “What a great way for kids to enjoy the festivities of Halloween without eating excessive amounts of candy.”  The Switch Witch isn’t for everyone, but it works for us.’

Emily added that she and her husband aren’t trying to ‘zap the fun out of Halloween’ but are trying to teach their daughter that foods can be ‘nutritious or less nutritious, and to prioritize foods with more nutrients.’

She explained that kids get sweet treats on holidays, birthdays, and during parades, so the parents are just trying to limit the amount of sugar their child consumes.

Dr. Deborah Giboa, a parenting and youth development expert, told the outlet that there is ‘nothing wrong’ with Emily and Levi’s Halloween practice, however cautioned parents to be weary creating fictional characters because they will have to eventually tell their children the truth.
