Observing the constantly growing popularity of WordPress CMS, it is not surprising to see website owners converting their site into a WP powered site. If you are running an HTML website, and aiming to expand your business reach it is recommended that you should consider migrating your static site to WordPress platform. Doing so, will help you meet your growing business needs in the most efficient manner possible. When it comes to converting your static site to a WordPress site, keep three things in your mind: Choose dog fucking a girl good and reliable hosting service provider that support PHP. You require a mysql database.
Choose a database name, a username and and strong password for your database account. You might have to use a .htaccess file. Install WordPress in a Sub-folder Begin with installing WordPress into any sub-folder, let’s say, /mycms. After completion of the WP installation, go to Settings -> Privacy. By default, in the privacy settings window you’ll see that the option “allow search engines to index this site” is selected, uncheck this option and choose the second one (as shown in the screen shot below) so that search engines can’t index your site, until you’re not ready for moving your current site to the WordPress platform.
Since your WP site is in a sub-folder, you can initiate development of your website while your current site is in active state. Preserving Your Old URLs It’s very important that your new website URLs remain the same just like your old site URLs. For this, you will have to change the default structure of your site permalinks, by navigating to Settings -> Permalinks and choose “Custom Structure” as shown in the screen shot below: Keep in mind, while development of your new website the URLs will look something like /mycms/page-url.html.
After completion of the steps the URL will appear as /page-url.html, just like your old website URL. Next, move all your static site to new WordPress site. This requires you to copy all the text or HTML code from the current (or old) static website, and then paste it into the WordPress code screen. Modifying Website Layout You can choose to convert your old static HTML website to WP powered site having the same layout.
However, you can even change the layout of your current website theme. For this purpose, search over the web for a nice free or premium theme that fits your business specific needs. Customize the theme as per your own requirements. Once you’re satisfied with your site layout and have successfully placed all the content of your old site into the new one, just follow the below mentioned steps to make your website go live: Rename your current index.html file stored in the root directory, or delete it. Next, copy both index.php as well as .htaccess file from the newly created WP sub-folder to your current website root directory. Go to Setting -> General, and change your website address (URL) into the domain name.
And then, get rid of the /mycms (WordPress sub-folder).
