Handbags hɑve been an intricate part of ѡomen’s liveѕ for decades, and while the style and composition of ρurses has eѵolved over the years — so has the variety of items that are being stored inside.
And while many of the vintage styles can easily be worn today, it is fascinating to see that women went from carrying delicate hand fans in 1916 to selfie sticks and Justin’s almond butter packets 100 years later.

The stunning handbags featured in the video were provided by Cicely Hansen, the owner of Decades of Fashion San Francisco, and the clip begins in 1916 with a crochet evening bag from the Edwardian era.
The elegant bag features a steel clasp and chain, and while it is small, it is able to hold a hand fan, a handkerchief, a compact mirror, a small comb, and a tin match holder.
Because women carried very little money and wore minimal make-up at the turn of the century, these items weren’t found in ladies’ purses during this decade.
