Decide what you want to spend for the part before you go. This can keep you from overspending on your budget. Sometimes these junkyards have staff who will pull the part or get it off a shelf. If you know what you want to spend it will help you determine if you want it from this place at all. Also, find out what they will charge you for it if you find it and pull it yourself. You don’t want to go through the hassle only to leave it behind because their prices are out of reach.

Make an appointment — If a salvage yard makes an acceptable offer for your vehicle, then make an appointment to drop it off. If it isn’t drivable, the yard may send out a tow truck to take it away. A car that has to be towed will be worth less as it will cost the salvage yard more money to obtain your vehicle. If your car is not drivable, but can be pulled to a salvage yard, then consider doing the job yourself.

But where would you find salvage motorcycles? The best places to look for salvage motorcycles are at your local junk yard, your local newspaper or auction sites. I personally recommend auction sites. Mainly, because the selection is so good. You can probably find anything that your looking for from a honda to a Suzuki to a Ducati. with so much of a selection it will probably be very easy to find exactly what you want.

Craigslist.org – If you are running a commercial construction business in your area, chances are you have at least one competitor (if not 12). Your competition might be in a position to unload some of their vehicles, and Craigslist is a good place for them to advertise the sale (mostly because it’s local and free).

Keep in mind that junkyards are similar to swap meets in that most prices are negotiable. This is especially true when you’re buying parts that are not in good condition. Ask for a discount or offer a lower price. Junkyards will often agree just to move the inventory. That being said, you can expect to pay nearly half of the cost of a new part. For example, a water pump for a BMW 740i may cost $140 new. Expect to pay $70 (in cash) at the 2004 volvo s40.

Why would you want to buying auto parts online? Mostly all the same reasons that you would buy anything else online. Availability of auto is better then trying to run around and find the part you need at different parts stores. Store competition is also much higher because all of the online stores nationwide are competing against each other. The are not limited by location so you can pick from any of them. You also have many more options when shopping online. Not only can you find the part you need but you’ll have many different ones to choose from. Not just some OEM part or just one brand of aftermarket part that your local parts store carries.

Try browsing online car ads for a classic vehicle. Use keyword terms to help you find something. Often people will be selling their car privately because they need the money, not because they want to part with a classic. As unfortunate as that is, it allows you to swoop in and nab a great car for a potential deal.
